StarRupture will allow you to host your own dedicated server so that you and your friends can easily play together. You can use the developer’s method or the SteamCMD method. The SteamCMD gives you control over your server updates and patches. In this guide, we will tell you how to set up and host a StarRupture server via SteamCMD.
Dedicated Server using SteamCMD
The developers have provided an official setup instruction using the Steam tool method to host your own server. It is easy and works fine for most of the players, but if you use the SteamCMD method, you can have a lightweight server; you won’t need to keep Steam running, and you will have more control over updates and startups. You will need port forwarding, as if your ports are not forwarded, players outside your network will not be able to join you.
How to Set Up a Dedicated Server using SteamCMD

First, you need to download the SteamCMD. Open Google and search ‘SteamCMD’. Then click the ‘Valve Developer Community’ link. After that, you need the SteamCMD for Windows. You will get a ‘steamcmd.zip’ file. Extract the zip file and open the folder.
Double-click on ‘steamcmd.exe’ and let it update and load. When you see the SteamCMD prompt, type ‘login anonymous’. StarRupture will allow anonymous login, so you will not need to have the game on this account.
In the SteamCMD, enter ‘app_update 3809400’. This will download StarRupture server files, and the download speed will depend on your internet speed. You can also use this same command to update your server.

Now, you need to create an auto-update batch file. It is an optional method, but it will make future updates easier. To create an auto update batch file, right-click inside your SteamCMD folder, then select New and text file. You can name it however you like. Just don’t forget to put ‘.bat’ after your update batch file name. Then right click on the file and inside it type ‘steamcmd.exe +login anonymous +app_update 3809400 validate +quit’. After this, save the file. Running this file will update your server automatically.
You need to then find and edit the server start file. First, go to SteamCMD, then to steamapps, and then go to common. After that, go to Star Rupture Dedicated Server. Inside the file type ‘SRServer-log.bat’. Then right-click and open it with Notepad++.
Now, set the IP address and port. At the end of the command, inside the file, add your IP address and server port. Some players will only need the port, and some will need ‘multihome’. Save the file when you are done. Double-click on ‘SRServer-log.bat’ and the server window will open, and it will start scrolling text. When the scrolling stops, your server is ready to use.
How to Set Up the Server

Now, you need to set up the server in the game. For that, first you need to launch StarRupture and click ‘Manage Server’. Then enter your server IP and connect to it. Now, you can set your admin password and server password. After that, click ‘New Game’ and give your session a name. Click ‘Start Game’. Then wait for it to load. When you see ‘Session is running’, you will be ready to play your game on your dedicated server.
To join the dedicated server, go to join the game, select ‘dedicated server’, and enter your IP address and server password. After that, click ‘Confirm’. Now you will be able to load into your server.
How to Shut Down the Server
To stop the server, click inside the server window and press ‘Control+C’. Then press it again if it doesn’t shut down. To restart the server, just run the ‘.bat’ file again. If you have trouble connecting to your server, restart the server or check the port forwarding. You can also try switching between internal and external IPs.
